2. You can look at all of the food porn you want without having to clear your browser or use an Incognito Window.

3. Your lover's genitalia don't come with your choice of zesty dipping sauce.

An Actual Fruit Salad

An Actual Fruit Salad

When I was very little, I used to be very confused about why I was served a fruit salad with no — salad. Learning later on that salads did not necessarily need to have the leafy greens gave me a short period of salad identity confusion, but to remedy my anxieties I just turn to my favorite type of salad. So easy to make, no need of fancy dressing, bright colors, and filling enough to not have you reaching for the potato chips. Oh right, and its all healthy and stuff.

I used a spring salad mix, sometimes I use just plain spinach, but it depends on the texture you prefer. Just cut up one avocado, 4 strawberries and toss those in. For the dressing take about a half cup of orange juice and a tablespoon of avocado oil (olive oil can substitute), a pinch or two of sugar, and mix it up. You can always adjust the portions to your preference. Many times I end up adding a little more oil to get that dressing consistency. Then just lightly pour that baby over and you have your fruit salad!

Sidenote: Add edamame for a different texture or salt them for side snacks as seen in the photo.

Step back Colonel, its Korean Fried Chicken

Step back Colonel, its Korean Fried Chicken

For those of you who haven’t already experienced this wonderful phenomenon, let me introduce you to korean fried chicken. This yummy dish was had at Bon Chon on 38th street, but there are other restaurants around the city as well because its so damn good.

Some people don’t believe that these are chicken wings since they look like baby drumsticks (the restaurants have drumsticks too, though!) but think of the chicken’s upper wing/arm? and that’s what you’re getting. A little plump goodness that’s unique because of its soy&garlic flavor or its spicy option. Want both? No problem. Bon Chon gives you the option to do some garlic and some spicy in the same order. You’re also served with a small metal bucket to put away your bones. I personally don’t use it because sometimes I like seeing how much I’ve gotten through…other times I very disgusted with myself but we all move on :) The last finishing touch that makes eating Bon Chon chicken such a satisfying, heart-warming, belly-filling, experience are the radish cubes, a perfect way to diffuse the spiciness or clean your palette for the next crunchy, flavorful bite.

Dinner during Hurricane Sandy

Chicken and pasta made with basil and cooked sopresotta. Thanks to mom. Comfort food at a discomforting time. Its actually helping keep the nerves off as I hear unknown objects beong.swept by a wind thats clawing at our windows. We still have power here but we will see how the night goes. Fortunately I’m with my family and I’m thankful that we’re all safe. Also thankful for my friends who are keeping me laughing through nerve-wracking night. Prayers go out to those affected already and those waiting out the storm. I know some homes are already damaged and power lost. Please stay safe and keep each other in mind.

Upper East Brunchin

Ottomanelli’s at 93rd & Lexington is one of those places ill make a trip to the UES for. Its small but very nicely decorated and has a great selection of brunch options that also include coffee or tea and a choice between a mimosa, prosecco, or bloody mary. I got coffee and prosecco to.wash down my grilled salmon with eggs and home fries. My only issue is that I wanted more of that salmon that doesn’t try to get you with extra frills of taste but wholesome grilled goodness. Don’t get me wrong the portions were still filling. I usually go here when I’m about to get to the Met, which right now has a brilliant rooftop exhibit called cloud city by tomás saraceno. Exhibition officially closes next Sunday, November 4, and hopefully it won’t be damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Hope everyone is keeping safe and dry. Will try to post some comfort sandy foods when I get a chance

Tis the season…. to eat pumpkin

Tis the season.... to eat pumpkin

Pumpkin ale is one of my new faves for the fall! This one in particular is called Greenpoint Leaf Pile but I’ll just say pumpkin ale since no one wants to wonder why you’re drinking leaf pile.

Got this at Buddha Beer Bar in Washington Heights, NY. A new kind of bar for the area although it also fits right in as a sports bar and filled with angry previous jocks or want to be jocks (at least when I went there). Otherwise its a good medium size, they have many local beers, and a good set of nachos and sweet potato fries. Best part is that the pumpkin ale is rimmed with cinammon and brown sugar! Autumn delighttt.

Now my only problem with this place was this one waitress. When we asked for a menu she responded as if we had asked her with an attitude. No attitude was given (I just wanted to my grub on!) and she took a good amount of time coming back to take our orders. Double that time to get our bill and double the double time in waiting for our change. Maybe she thought we were giving the change as a tip but for a 30 dollar meal we’re going to give 17 dollar tip? Right. I love to give extra for people who are extra slow when its not that busy. Anyway, we finally got the change from a different waitress and got the heck out of there.

Overall, Buddha Beer Bar is an alliteration worth visiting.
