Ottomanelli’s at 93rd & Lexington is one of those places ill make a trip to the UES for. Its small but very nicely decorated and has a great selection of brunch options that also include coffee or tea and a choice between a mimosa, prosecco, or bloody mary. I got coffee and prosecco to.wash down my grilled salmon with eggs and home fries. My only issue is that I wanted more of that salmon that doesn’t try to get you with extra frills of taste but wholesome grilled goodness. Don’t get me wrong the portions were still filling. I usually go here when I’m about to get to the Met, which right now has a brilliant rooftop exhibit called cloud city by tomás saraceno. Exhibition officially closes next Sunday, November 4, and hopefully it won’t be damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Hope everyone is keeping safe and dry. Will try to post some comfort sandy foods when I get a chance
Pumpkin ale is one of my new faves for the fall! This one in particular is called Greenpoint Leaf Pile but I’ll just say pumpkin ale since no one wants to wonder why you’re drinking leaf pile.
Got this at Buddha Beer Bar in Washington Heights, NY. A new kind of bar for the area although it also fits right in as a sports bar and filled with angry previous jocks or want to be jocks (at least when I went there). Otherwise its a good medium size, they have many local beers, and a good set of nachos and sweet potato fries. Best part is that the pumpkin ale is rimmed with cinammon and brown sugar! Autumn delighttt.
Now my only problem with this place was this one waitress. When we asked for a menu she responded as if we had asked her with an attitude. No attitude was given (I just wanted to my grub on!) and she took a good amount of time coming back to take our orders. Double that time to get our bill and double the double time in waiting for our change. Maybe she thought we were giving the change as a tip but for a 30 dollar meal we’re going to give 17 dollar tip? Right. I love to give extra for people who are extra slow when its not that busy. Anyway, we finally got the change from a different waitress and got the heck out of there.
Overall, Buddha Beer Bar is an alliteration worth visiting.
The photo only features half the sandwich as I was very hungry and couldn’t wait.
Steak Panini and Greek Fries in Forest Hills’ Agora. Its one of the newer establishments that I am actually pleased about. Agora is a greek restaurant but has a more of an Americanized feel to it. The decor is mainly white and light blue, reminiscent of the actual greek restaurants in Greece. For me, they’re a bit too pricy at dinner time but offer a great lunch menu and good deal on brunch for the area ($13.95 brunch including one drink). The atmosphere is bright and many people go there now including families and I feel that it has the ability to stand its ground and remain prominent for a long time in Forest Hills 🙂
Many times I sit on the couch wondering how I’m going to cook some nutritious fabulous intricate meal and realize I’m not that great of a cook so when I’m feeling tired from the day or need a quick start to it I stir up one of my regular go-to meals. Instead of the BLT, I make the SMT, Spinach, Mushrooms, and Tomatoes (Slice of toast optional – if you’re feeling bready)
Before I continue..I want to put up my only issue with Spinach. Spinach, why are you so deceiving? You come in these nice beautiful bunches and or the big organic plastic containers, but once I fry you shrink to a saddening portion. I keep forgetting I just need much more of you in my life to fill my needs.
Ok, and we’re back. SMT is so simple that I probably don’t even have to write about it, but in case you’re still wondering:
Heat the pan. Pour in the olive oil (not too much). Mince some garlic and then just drop that right in. Then slice your mushrooms and slide that right over and let them get brown and coated with that garlic and oil. Depending on how you like your tomatoes you can put them before or after your spinach. Oh yes, the deceitful spinach don’t forget to put that in and stir it all around until the spinach has been obviously cooked and terrified into shrinking.
Then you have SMT and those three ingredients together are yummy and nutritious, plus if you’re feeling hungrier SMT goes well with ground beef, cheese, and many other combinations.
Eggs Florentine with potatoes.
Spinach and poached eggs on a biscuit that blend into a savory crunch. Coated by breakfast and packing the happiness of lunch, Oh yes please. Enough texture and flavor to satisfy anyone, especially me who at one in the afternoon had not yet had anything to eat (a very dangerous situation).
The place is called French Bistro in the 80s on Broadway. Open 24 hours with homey decor and verging on American diner style, which is spared by the hanging artwork and nonuniformal seating. The atmosphere is lively and gets crowded a good amount. Overall I thought it was pretty pleasant and I would go back.
Sunday dinner with the roomie!
Now I am no chef, but when in lack of marinara, Alfredo, or some fancy sauce, just call on good old butter. Sauteé some garlic onions with seasoning (I’m a Basil girl) and then drop in the mushrooms and tomatoes. After youve strained the pasta throw it in and stir around quickly.
And Voila, bon appet–
Oh wait I’ve already finished my food because of how delicious it is.
Doesn’t hurt to treat yourself to a good wine. Courtesy of our friend Lisa, the wine is Cheval Noir Saint-Émilion. A Grand Vin indeed. It’s very full bodied, mostly dry, and just a tiny bit tart from the hints of fruit.
Nice relaxing meal before the Mondays come around 🙂
